Supporting ongoing safety for your building

Fire safety compliance isn’t a one-off task. It needs reviewing and maintaining throughout a building’s life. Our auditing services help you identify fire safety risks, understand where action is needed, and keep the right evidence in place, whether that’s for a statutory risk assessment, a check on compartmentation, or a review of fire doors and dangerous substances. Find out more below about each of the assessments and surveys we offer.

Fire Risk Assessments

A fire risk assessment identifies and manages fire hazards in buildings and workplaces, and is a legal requirement under Article 9 of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and the Fire Safety Act 2021.

An accurate, up to date assessment is what protects both the people in your building, and you as a responsible person, giving you a clear, evidenced picture of where action is needed.

For buildings with multiple domestic premises, this includes the structure, external walls, and flat entrance doors, with more complex scenarios, such as those requiring a PAS 9980 appraisal, carried out by a competent professional.

Compartmentation Surveys

Compartmentation is the fire resistance built into a building’s walls, floors, ceilings and doors, designed to contain a fire and stop it spreading to other areas. A compartmentation survey checks whether that fire resistance is intact.

Even a small, unnoticed breach, such as unsealed service penetration, can undermine a building’s entire fire strategy, so identifying these gaps is one of the most direct ways to reduce the risk of fire spreading beyond its point of origin.

Fire Door Inspections

Fire doors are a key part of a building’s compartmentation strategy, and depend on correct installation and maintenance to perform as intended. A fire door inspection checks for deficiencies that compromise that performance.

A fire door that looks fine can still fail in a fire if a seal, hinge or gap has been compromised, so a proper inspection is often the only way to catch these issues before they matter.

DSEAR Assessments

A DSEAR risk assessment evaluates the risk posed by dangerous substances present at a workplace, as required under the Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002.

Where dangerous substances are stored or used on site, understanding the specific risks they pose is essential to keeping both people and the building safe, and to meeting legal obligations as an employer or responsible person.

Our FAQs

Answers to some of the questions we’re asked most often about fire safety auditing. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, get in touch and we’ll be happy to help.

How often should a fire risk assessment be reviewed?

A fire risk assessment should be reviewed annually. It should be assessed sooner if there’s a significant change to the building or how it’s used, for example an alteration to the structure, a change of occupancy, or after a fire safety incident.

Does DSEAR apply to my building?

DSEAR applies where dangerous substances, such as flammable liquids, gases or dusts are present at a workplace. We can advise whether your premises fall within scope.
