Designing for how a building performs

Building physics examines how a building manages heat, light, air and energy, and how these factors influence the people using it every day. A well-designed building provides comfortable, healthy spaces while minimising energy consumption and running costs. Issues such as overheating, poor ventilation or excessive energy use can be difficult and costly to address once construction is complete, making early consideration essential.

Our approach combines a scientific understanding of building performance with practical design advice and regulatory expertise. We assess how heat, airflow, daylight and thermal mass interact to shape the internal environment, helping design teams make informed decisions from the earliest project stages. This supports compliance with UK Building Regulations and sustainability objectives, while delivering buildings that are comfortable, efficient, resilient and fit for long-term use.
