Cahill Design Consultants was appointed to provide Acoustic consultancy services to support Stanway Community Centre, located in Colchester.

The project comprised the design and construction of a new community centre for the local area. The building consists of ground floor plus one floor and includes a main hall, a function room or café, kitchen & bar, and a first-floor meeting room.

CDC provided acoustic support from RIBA Stage 3 to completion. Working closely with the client and the wider design team, intricate acoustic details were incorporated into the building, allowing the space to be suitable for a wide variety of uses, as per the Client brief. Extensive acoustic modelling of the main hall ensured that the acoustic energy is controlled creating high levels of speech intelligibility for all uses, including SEN classes.

On practical completion of the development, acoustic testing was undertaken to ensure that the requirements outlined within the Acoustic Report have been met.
